The conference will take place in the University Carlos III of Madrid (B in the map) in Leganés.
Leganés is a town 15km southwest of Puerta del Sol (downtown Madrid) and located in the Madrid metropolitan area.
The campus of University Carlos III is one of the main attractions in Leganés for visitors, including the Sabatini building (hosting the Computer Science Dept.), a 17th century military site, and also the Library and Padre Soler Auditorium building. The town of Leganés offers other points of interest, like: San Salvador's church (17th century) with three Baroque altarpieces by the famous Spanish sculptor José Benito Churriguera; the ancient Psychiatric Hospital facade, (18th century); the "La Cubierta" bullfighting ring, one of the few wholly covered bullfighting rings in Spain, used also for many shows and concerts, and with a wide bars area around it.
Hot To Get to the Leganés Campus
The Campus of the Carlos III University of Madrid is located in Leganés, in South Madrid. From the airport or from the centre of Madrid, you can take either the train, bus, metro, taxi or a private car.
The Barajas Airport is about 15 Km from downtown Madrid. In addition to the taxi service, there are bus and metro lines which go to the Plaza de Colon (city centre), and a metro line to Nuevos Ministerios, which has a connection to the Cercanias/RENFE train line to Leganés. Using public transportation it is possible to get directly to Leganés either by metro or by train; then it is almost 5 minutes walking from the station to the Campus.
Taxi fare is made up of various separate charges. The basic rate depends on the number of kilometres travelled, the time, the day of the week and the supplementary charges. There is an airport surcharge of €4.00, and if you are carrying more than two pieces of luggage, there is a charge of €1.50 for each bag. The total fare from the airport to the Leganes Campus will be approximately €40.00.
The buses leave directly from the airport and take you to the Plaza de Colon. The fare is €1.15. From "Plaza de Colon" to "Atocha" take one of the city buses, either the 27 or the 24 to "Atocha". Once there, take Cercanias/RENFE train.
The Madrid Metro system has a stop at the Madrid-Barajas Airport called "Aeropuerto", and it is on line number 8. To reach the city centre, take line 8 direction "Nuevos Ministerios". Once there, you will take the Cercanias/RENFE train. The price of a regular ticket is €1; coming from the airport the price is €2.
You can take the Cercanías trains from Nuevos Ministerios or Atocha RENFE. From Nuevos Ministerios there are different possible trains which stop at Atocha station. Once you've arrived at "Atocha station ", take the C5 line (direction: "Humanes", usually leaving from platform 9) to the "Leganés Central " train station. The trip takes about 20 minutes. The "Leganés Central " station is only a short distance from the Campus. The train fare for a single is €1.15.
